Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Procedures
Removal of Wisdom and Non-Restorable Teeth
We take great pride in the way we treat patients who require wisdom tooth extraction. Although the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS) considers the best time for removal of impacted and unerupted teeth to occur between the ages of 15 and 25, wisdom tooth removal an important part of preventive dentistry at any age. Waiting for impacted and unerupted teeth to cause pain or complex clinical complication, results only in more extensive and costly treatment. Our patents report excellent recovery rates following tooth removal.
Bone Grafting
As tooth equals bone loss, it is not uncommon for patients to require replacement of lost bone prior to Implant placement. Dr. Esposito has developed outstanding skill at reconstructing both simple and complex bone graft needs. Through the use of safe harvesting techniques and the latest advances of modern medicine, almost every degree of bone loss can be corrected by Dr. Esposito and his outstanding team.
Orthognathic Surgery
This procedure is the correction of in-balances of the jaws. Through years of training and experience and the assistance of a skilled orthodontist, predictable long-term success can be achieved.
Pre-Prosthetic Surgery
Before prosthetic restorations such as crowns, bridges, or dentures can be constructed, the soft tissues of the mouth or the jawbones may need to be surgically reshaped. This procedure may be accomplished through recontouring the bone, enlarging the tissues in the floor of the mouth, or by surgical removal of excess tissues of the mouth---allowing for a better fitting and more comfortable restoration.
Cleft Lip and Palate Deformities
By itself, cleft lip is harmless but it can be disfiguring; in this situation the cleft can be closed by surgery a few weeks after birth. Unlike cleft lip, which is merely unsightly, a cleft palate can cause eating and swallowing difficulties. Palate deformities can sometimes be cured using an appliance soon after birth. The appliance gently and steadily presses the divided parts of the palate together. For more severe cases, surgery may be required. Dr. Esposito will work with your orthodontist or general dentist to decide the best treatment and post-operative guidelines for you.
Treating Problems of the Face and Mouth
For a variety of reasons, tumors and cysts may form in either the bones or the soft tissues of the mouth. While some may be harmless, others may threaten the health and function of the surrounding tissue. In this case, the tumor or cyst should be removed surgically.
Jaw and Facial Bone Fractures
In the unfortunate event of trauma to the face or jaw, there are various procedures available to repair fractures as well as reconstruct the facial skeleton. Dr. Esposito is highly skilled in the area of reconstructive surgery and will skillfully recreate the ideal position of the facial bones so that a natural appearance is maintained.
Implant Examination and Dentascan Interpretation
This examination assists Dr. Esposito in determining whether or not you would be a candidate for dental implants, and how many implants could be positioned for maximum implant success.
